Amir Khan to fight Neeraj Goyat in Saudi Arabia.

In a grand press conference held during the holy month of Ramazan at Karachi’s prestigious Pearl Continental hotel, Pakistan it was announced that boxing icon and global sporting phenomenon Amir Khan will make history when goes up the formidable opponent Neeraj Goyat in fight taking place in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Friday, 12th July 2019.

Two-Time World Champion & Olympic Silver Medalist “King” Khan from Bolton, England of Pakistan heritage will face India’s national boxing hero Neeraj Goyat, the WBC Asian Champion in a massive showdown with world title on the line. Both fighters will be exchanging blows, vying for World Boxing Championship (WBC) Pearl Belt. The WBC Pearl Belt is a very special championship belt second only to the Floyd MayWeather Connor McGreggor Money Belt.

Mauricio Sulaiman, President WBC has been hailed as the person who made it possible. The WBC Pearl Belt will be show-cased at this event’s London press conference, which is to be held in upcoming days.

As the biggest Muslim personality in the sport since legendary Muhammad Ali, Amir Khan will become the first high profile Muslim Boxer to show-case his skills at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah. Pakistan’s first ever professional boxing league, ‘Super Boxing League’ (SBL) to start from 28th September 2018.

Boxing enthusiasts and sports junkies in Pakistan are about to experience for the first time ever, a boxing league like none other. Super Boxing League (SBL) comes to Pakistan as Amir ‘King’ Khan takes the responsibility to revive this sport in his homeland.

 

On Thursday, June 21, 2018, management committee, team owners, sponsors and advocates came together for a press conference at the Karachi Marriott Hotel (Crystal Ballroom) to announce ‘Super Boxing League Pakistan. Amir Khan and other prominent names like Salman Iqbal, Shahid Afridi, Saif Malik, Ali Sheikh, Nadeem Omer, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and many more from all walks of life and achievement were present to inaugurate this historic sporting event. The press-conference started at around 05:30 PM due to late arrival of many stars and was followed by a question & answers session with team owners and stars.

About first SBL Pakistan: SBL Pakistan is due to start on 28th September 2018 and it will be a 06 week extravaganza concluding on 03rd November 2018. This one-of-a-kind, first ever professional boxing tournament, Super Boxing League (SBL) Pakistan will be organized in association with Punjab Sports Board (PSB) & World Boxing Council (WBC) at the Amir Khan Boxing Academy, Islamabad, Pakistan.

For a transparent and successful inaugural edition of SBL Pakistan, WBC will be supervising the entire tournament, the best of Pakistani and international talent and present world class, captivating fights. The series will comprise of 8 franchise teams from major cities of the country.

Eight (08) teams will be participating competing against each other in two (02) groups of four (04) teams each. There will be Twelve (12) qualifying events spread over the period of four (04) weeks, followed by two (02) semi-finals during the fifth week and finally third and fourth place and final will be held during the 06th week.

SBL Pakistan in its first season has a mix of experience and youth with bringing in talent across the following categories: 01) Feather-Weight 57 kg, 02) Welter-Weight 66.7 kg, 03) Middle-Weight 72.57 kg, 04) Super Middle-Weight- 76.20 kg, 05) Heavy-Weight and 06) unlimited and for females only category is Super fly-Weight 52.16 kg.

Eight teams will be participating in the first edition of SBL Pakistan and each team will comprise of 10 male and 2 female in their squad to hold the fort for their respective franchises. Eight teams participating are Karachi Cobras, Quetta Gladiators, Faisalabad Falcons, Islamabad Kings, Sialkot Shers, Lahore Rams, Pakhtoon Warriors and Multan Nawabs.

SBL Pakistan has a unique point scoring system, on each fight its allows to give +1 point at for draw, referee decision +3 points to winner, technical knockout +4 to winner and knockout +6 to winner.

For Pakistan, the live telecast rights will go to the highest bidding broadcaster. While globally, SBL has signed agreements with Fox Network for Asian markets, Tencent – QQ Penguin for China and with Sky Sports for New Zealand providing broadcasting outreach to over 900 million homes in about 50+ countries. The series will comprise of 8 franchise teams from major cities of the country including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot and Quetta.

The event is led under the vision of two-time world champion Amir Khan and promoted by the British business tycoon Bill Dosanjh. This event will also see for the first time in the country, individual celebrities as team owners including ‘Sultan of Swing’ Wasim Akram, ‘Lala / Boom Boom’ Shahid Afridi, Media Mogul Salman Iqbal and the maestro Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

The event will spread over 6 weeks of adrenaline and pure thrill with league fights of 6 matches in a day (Friday, Saturday & Sunday). Each of the 6 matches will feature 5 male fights and 1 female fight ensuring diversity and magnetism of the event is comprehensive.

Contrastingly official body of boxing in Pakistan which is ‘Pakistan Boxing Federation’ (PBF) on Tuesday announced that it would not be supporting British pugilist Amir Khan’s Super Boxing League (SBL) in Pakistan. “The PBF executive committee held its meeting, and in a resolution unanimously decided that the PBF will not become part of any event, including SBL, not organised under the statutes of AIBA and constitution of the national federation,” said a spokesman for the PBF.

“The PBF will promote and develop boxing and protect the interests of pugilists in accordance with AIBA and PBF rules,” added the spokesman.
