Style Textile tops Pakistan’s Top Exporters List.

List of Pakistan’s top 100 Exporters was released last week and us usual this year’s top exporters list also had no surprises, as it was dominated by textile sector. Almost 70% of the contributors were from textile-sector. All of the top 10 exporters were also from textile-sector with seven of them from Karachi, two from Lahore and one from Faisalabad. These top 100 Exporters effected a contribution of $10.36 billion to country’s economy. Rice-sector with 9% contribution on the list came second and contributed around $700 million to national treasury.

Lahore based Style Textile topped the export-sales list for second consecutive year with export-sales amounting to $428 million. Last year their export-sales stood at $333 million. This shows an increase of 33% from their last year’s figures.

Interloop from Faisalabad jumped from sixth spot (last year) to reach second (this year) with the figures of $331 million export-sales. This also shows a very significant increase of 55% from their last year’s figures of $214 million.

Artistic Milliners stood their ground by gaining third position for second consecutive year. They bettered their previous year’s exports-sales from $278 million to $329 million, which accounted to an increase of 18%.

Yunus Textile Mills bagged fourth position with export-sales of $311 million this year. Last year they were at $221 million and this year they managed to increase their export-sales by a wide margin of 41%.

Nishat Mills Limited with export-sales of $307 million dropped from last year’s second position to fifth position this year. Last year, they managed $291 million.

Gul Ahmed Textile Mills was also on the list of achievers. They jumped from eighth position to sixth position. Their figures rose by 39% from last year’s $205 million to $284 million this year.

Feroz 1888 Mills Limited with export-sales of $273 million this year bagged seventh position and rose by 38% from their last year’s figures of $198 million.  

Soorty Enterprises Limited dropped from fourth position down to eighth position. Their year’s sales figures stood at $268 million against their last year’s figures of $259 million showing a difference of 3% only.

Artistic Fabrics & Garments Industries bettered their last year’s sales figure by 20%. This year their export-sales figures stood at $226 million against their last year’s export-sales figures of $189 million.

Liberty Textile Mills managed to jump into top ten by capturing the last available slot. They bettered their stats by 25% and managed to bag $216 million against their last year’s figure of $173 million.

Novatex (plastic-chips manufacturer) and Garibsons (rice-sector) are the only two exporters in top-twenty list not hailing from the dominant textile-sector. Novatex with $167 million stood at sixteenth position and Garibsons with $165 million bagged eighteenth position.

Rice sector had nine(09) contributors in the list followed by three (03) from cement-sector, two(02) each from steel-sector, oil-gas-sector and chemical-sector. One each contributor from plastic-sector, pharmaceutical-sector, ethanol, herb, spices, logistics, IT services and surgical goods completed the list.

Strengthening the creative industries across Pakistan with a grant opportunity in eight different categories.

The British Council and DEMO have announced the opening of applications for the Creative Communities Empowerment programmes – DICE Creative Hubs. Under the British Council’s Developing Inclusive and Creative Economies (DICE) programme, this empowerment programmes will support and curate eight meaningful activities enriched with powerful industry specific content. Enabling like-minded people to come together to dream, share, imagine, innovate and explore ideas.

A grant of PKR 1,070,000 each will be given to eight creative organisations in the following categories: Fine Arts and Handicrafts, Software Development, Music and Performing Arts, Literature, Film-making, Architecture – Interior Design and Industrial Design, Fashion and Textile and lastly Graphic Design. DEMO together with the selected organizations, will be co-designing creative hub activities in the form of meet-ups, workshops, dialogues, online marketplaces, performances, showcasing, screening events and more to strengthen the sustainability of their creative practices in the ecosystem.

Talha Chishti, Head of Programmes at British Council Pakistan added: “DICE Creative Hubs is a wonderful opportunity for the Pakistani creative industry to collaborate and work together on the pressing issues of their communities and create a meaningful impact for the community members”

The programme is open for small organisations or artists collectively working in the creative industry, including but not limited to, art-galleries, design-studios, maker-spaces, co-working spaces, fab-labs or artists-run spaces are welcome to apply. The applicants eligible should have been operating for at least 1 to 5 years with revenue less than PKR 5 million/annum.

 Muhammad Bin Masood, CEO at DEMO, while speaking at the virtual launch commented; “creative hubs are not just ingenious solutions providers, they are institutions that foster and breed creativity towards a prosperous creative economy by recognizing potential and igniting growth through innovation.”
